1) The Chocolate Chip Bars may be fluffier if you use an egg instead of the cooking oil. But I am a vegetarian and so I used the cooking oil to make the bars softer. The baking powder helps too. 2) If you are Vegan, instead of the 1 tablespoon milk, use almond milk or water. And instead of butter, use more cooking oil, if you like.
In a small mixer bowl, cream butter and sugar together until fluffy.
Add milk, vanilla and oil. Mix well.
In another bowl, add flour, baking powder and salt. Stir together.
Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture. Mix thoroughly until well blended.
Add 1/2 cup of chocolate pieces and the nuts. Stir until mixed well.
Line an 8-inch square microwaveable dish with a paper towel. It will be easier to remove the bars from the pan.
Drop the dough in four equal mounds in the dish. Spread the mixture on it evenly.
Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup chocolate pieces.
Microwave at High, 5 to 7 minutes on the revolving plate until done. If static plate, rotate the dish 1/4 turn every 2 minutes.
Don't overcook. If the dough looks set, if it does not look wet and soft, use a toothpick to test. If it comes clean, chocolate chip bars are done.
Cool the dish. Place it directly on the counter top to cool.
Invert the dish onto a cutting board, so that you can remove the bars.
