Tomato Raita (Salad)

Raita's are essential with Spicy Indian Food. The Yogurt in the Raita equalizes the heat and spicy tastes of the Curries and Masala dishes. This Raita is made with Tomatoes.

Ingredients

  • 2 Roma Tomatoes tomatoes without much juice in them
  • 2 cup Plain Yoghurt
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • ½ Red Chilli dried red chilli piece
  • ½ tsp Urad Dahl
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds or Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1 tbsp Cilantro finely chopped
  • ½ tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. Add chopped tomatoes to a small salad bowl.

  2. Add yoghurt, milk and salt to the bowl and mix well.

  3. Place a small frypan on medium heat. Add oil.

  4. When oil gets hot, add the red chilli and mustard seeds.

  5. When the mustard seeds start to crackle a little, add the urad dahl. Fry until urad dahl is light golden brown. Do not burn the urad dahl.

  6. Remove pan from the stove. Add the fried ingredients to the salad bowl contents. Mix thoroughly.

  7. Serve cold as a side dish.
